Audra McDonald's artistry is unmatched by her variety and breadth as a musician, and performer. In 2015, she won record-breaking 6 Tony Awards as well as two Grammy Awards and the Emmy Award. Her work was acknowledged by Time magazine among the 100 influential individuals, and also received an award called the National Medal of Arts - the top award given in America for artistic achievement and achievement - by the president Barack Obama. Blessed with a luminous soprano with an extraordinary talent for dramatic truth-telling her voice is comfortable on Broadway and the opera stage as in her film and television roles. In addition to her theatre work, she has many facets of her career, including musician and recording artist. She has a regular performance schedule in some of the top venues around the world. McDonald grew in Fresno California, where she was raised by an extended family of musicians. At the Juilliard School in New York City, McDonald received training as an classical vocalist. After graduating, she received her very first Tony Award for Best Performance of a Featured Actress the Musical Carousel at Lincoln Center Theater (1994). Through the next four-year period, she was awarded two more Tony Awards as a featured actor for her performances in Terrence Mcnally's Broadway debuts Master Class (1996) and Ragtime (1998) that gave her three Tony Awards at the age of just 30. In 2004, she received her fourth Tony in the role of Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun and in 2012 she won five awards, including her first-ever for the category of leading actress for her role as the title as the title character in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. She is the Tony Awards' most decorated actor, she managed to establish Broadway history when she was awarded her sixth Tony Award for acting in Billie Holiday as Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill. This role also provided the platform to make her Olivier Award nominee 2017 London West End debut. As well as setting records in terms of the number of honors an actor has earned, she was the first actor to take home all four categories. The credits for McDonald's theatre work comprise The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (99) Henry IV (2005) 110 in the Shade (2006) Twelfth Nacht (2009) the latter of which was her Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park premiere, which was her first show Shuffle Along or the Making of the Musical sensation from 1921 & Everything That Followed (2017) Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune (2018) as well as Ohio State Murders 2023. The Peabody Award-winning CBS program Having Our Say The Delany Sisters The First 100 Years which was the first to introduce McDonald to the television audience in her role as a dramatic performer. The actress then starred alongside Kathy Bates and Victor Garber in the lauded 1999 remake by ABC and Disney of Annie and in 2000 she played a regular role on NBC's hit series Law & Order Special Victims Unit. McDonald won her first Emmy for her role of her role in the HBO adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize winning play Wit written by Mike Nichols, starring Emma Thompson. In 2003, she made her return to television, this time in Mister Sterling produced by Emmy Award-winning Lawrence O'Donnell Jr., which starred Josh Brolin. Then, in the year 2006, McDonald joined the WB's The Bedford Diaries. The subsequent year, she was a recurring actor on NBC's Kidnapped. McDonald earned her fourth Emmy award in recognition of her appearance in HBO's special film of Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill in the year 2016. She starred alongside Taylor Schilling and Steven Pasquale in The Bite a six-episode pandemic-themed show co-produced by Spectrum Originals and CBS Studios in 2021. McDonald first played U.S. lawyer Liz Lawrence (now Liz Reddick), in CBS's Legal crime thriller The Good Wife, in the year 2009. In 2018 she played the same role again in The Good Fight for Paramount+ as a series regular. She received three Critics Choice Award Nominations. Presently, she is an actor in Julian Fellowes' historical drama The Gilded Age, which is telecast on HBO.
