Salma Hayek was a big success in Hollywood after she was offered an appearance in Robert Rodriguez's Desperado. Then, her Oscar nominated part in Frida took her to the top of Hollywood. Hayek was also involved with TV, serving as the director of Ugly Betty and other hit series. Early Life Salma Hayek Jimenez was born on the 2nd of September, 1966, at Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico she was the daughter of the Spanish mother and Lebanese father. Hayek, who was raised in an orthodox Catholic family, went to the Louisiana's monastery at the age of 12 old and spent her teenage years at Houston, Texas with her Aunt. Then, in Mexico City she briefly attended college, but she quit in order to pursue acting. She eventually became the star of Mexican television shows. Her first role in film, Hayek's move in Los Angeles was in 1991. She wanted to perfect her English so that she could become an Hollywood actress. Following a series of small films and a film role, she was paired with Antonio Banderas as Desperado in 1995.
